In this FOUR-week interactive, semester-long Spanish course, we will meet as a group THREE times per week for 45 minutes to learn Spanish. In the class students will develop the ability to understand and communicate in Spanish while playing games and having a ton of fun through reading short stories and class novels. Week 1Lesson 1Introductions, Calendar, Emotions, Weather, Bee habit discussion.Students will learn different ways to greet each other, talk about the weather and calendar and discuss how they feel in Spanish. We will discuss how bees are vital pollinators crucial for food production and ecosystem health. This is a great book to learn Spanish and science at the same time.Lesson 2Las Abejas Exploradoras Class NovelStudents will read chapters 1-2 of the class novel. This class is taught in Spanish.
Students will acquire the Spanish language naturally while having fun reading stories in Spanish, learning new vocabulary words, and playing traditional games to reinforce vocabulary. This class will help students become more fluent and confident in the language. This class will also help students prepare for the national AAPPl language test (I do not administer this exam). The AAPPL test Exam is used to assess a student's proficiency in the language. Students that score high enough will be awarded the bi literacy seal.
I have been a certified Spanish teacher for the past 25 years. I have a masters in education. I lived and studied in Spain for several years so I have a true Spanish accent (castellano).
Homework Offered
Optional flashcards and videos will be available. There will be minimal work to do outside of class, however, it is highly suggested that families encourage their children to practice the new vocabulary and concepts outside of the classroom. Practicing outside of class will give students the opportunity to relate the class material to their own life and environment which will help cement the new language in their brains.Assessments Offered
Informal assessing will be used during class with optional writing and oral exam at the end of the course.Grades Offered
We use the ACTFL proficiency rubrics to determine grades.
Students should have some exposure to the Spanish language before taking this class.

Google Slides/Screensharing- Class will be delivered using Google presentations and screensharing. Conjuguemos- this site will be used to practice verb conjugation Youtube- I use this platform to share educational videos via screensharing. Quizlet will be used to offer students optional flashcard practice.
The novels will be utilized during this class. Books can be purchased at Wayside Publishing or Amazon if you would like your own copy. Youtube will be used to show videos. Google slides will be used to deliver class information.
