In this class, students will learn about the life and death of many of Laura Ingalls Wilder's family and friends. Students will find out what they did, where they moved, who they married, and who had children. Students will learn many new facts and see many, many photos of their favorite people from the books. Growing up, the Little House on the Prairie series was one of my favorites! In fact, the books I use in class still have the inscription from my grandparents when I received them in 1990 as a birthday present! As I was teaching them in an English unit to my daughter, who is homeschooled, I wanted to also bring that opportunity to the students of Outschool to experience this amazing series of books. It was a book that I had my fifth and sixth grade English students read and a one-on-one book that my reading students read when I tutored in reading after school.
No assignments are given in this one-time class. No reading out loud. Excellent class for sharing what students remember about the book, favorite parts, favorite characters, etc. Low pressure environment.
Students will get more out of class if they have read/listened to/watched the Little House series but it is not a pre-requisite.
