I provide all the materials you need to work in your dedicated Latin notebook. Previous knowledge required: A working knowledge of English parts of speech and how it relates to Latin cases; 1st/2nd/3rd noun/adjective declensions and cases; 1st/2nd /3rd/4th and Esse/Posse verb conjugations in the past, future, and imperfect tenses (active indicative); rudimentary vocabulary including common conjunctions and prepositions; demonstrative pronouns (hic/ille/iste and idem), personal pronouns (ego/nos, etc), reflexive and intensive pronouns/adjectives. If this is your first class with me, I will send a vocabulary list prior to class starting so you can refer to it as we work. If you've had Latin classes with me, bring your handouts/notebook to class!! Today's class will be spent learning 3rd declension i-stem nouns and we will begin learning the different types of ablative cases. We'll start with the ablative of means, the ablative of manner, and the ablative of accompaniment. We will put these new constructions into practice and parse some translations. We will also learn additional vocabulary and go over a sight reading passage about Pandora's Box. This is a very interactive class. We do repetitions, drills, and sight reading. We discuss Roman culture, linguistics, and how Latin still affects many modern languages. Education is a conversation, and your voice is valued. Please feel free to share ideas, comments, and ask questions! No 3rd party accounts are necessary. We do use the free online resource (Latin Wiktionary) as our dictionary and case-checker!

Students will learn another facet of 3rd declension nouns and begin to learn about different uses of the ablative case. We will also sight read, practice our syntax and new constructions, and learn new vocabulary.

If this is your first time in my class, I will send a comprehensive vocabulary handout prior to class. Bring it. If you have taken other Latin classes with me, bring the vocabulary handouts and your dedicated notebook to class! You will need to refer to it. Students need a dedicated Latin notebook for making and studying their vocabulary and noun, adjective, and verb charts. This tool is key to learning and remembering word endings and the meanings of the root words. After class, I will send via Outschool message a copy of the slide show as well as a vocabulary list and translation practice. I can send it in either Office format (docx or pptx), Apple format (keynote/pages), or as Google links (docs/slides). Let me know your preference.
