This is a one-time, play-based class about the ladybug. Students will make a ladybug from clay or modeling dough while learning about and discussing the body parts that make this creature an insect. After creating their ladybugs, the students will learn a poem about the ladybug's spots that incorporates counting skills. Learners will then participate in a song to help them remember what they learned about the ladybug. The class will conclude with a sharing time where the students can display...

Optional: 9 - 1 1/2 inch pieces of black pipe cleaner or 9 toothpick pieces (broken in half) *The pipe cleaners or toothpick pieces are optional, but your learner will have a better experience if he/she has them. It is challenging for little fingers to make the ladybug legs, antennae, and to join the head to the body without them. *If your learner does not have the pipe cleaners or toothpicks, I can help him/her to make a flat version of the ladybug instead. Please bring a plate, small tray, or piece of cardboard (a piece of a cardboard box flap works great!) on which to lay the ladybug.
