This ongoing class is for young Kindergarten and First Grade learners who would benefit from one on one practice with reading. Your learner will be met where they're at, and learners will practice letter sounds, phonics, pronunciation, word families, sight words, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Students will learn how to DECODE words, not memorize them or guess at them. They will practice how to use their knowledge of letter sounds (phonemes) to figure out what each word is. They will be explicitly taught when letters and letter combinations are used to represent sounds (for example, au and aw are often used to represent the short o sound. (August, saw, hot) and how sometimes letters are sneaky like y, who often can be found disguised as a long i (dry) , long e, (January) or even short i (gym) sound. It even teams up with other vowels (Sunday)!

Paper and a marker (pencil and pen is difficult to see on camera) or a whiteboard and dry erase marker would be helpful to have on hand if the student is unable to annotate (draw) well on the screen. The teacher may send printable worksheets or reading materials at the request of parents or for ease of use during class time.
