In this ongoing class the student will receive first grade readiness instruction. The student will learn and have extensive practice with phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, high frequency words, writing, and handwriting through a research-based curriculum. We will review letter and sound identification, master grade-level appropriate rules for long and short vowels, and learn and practice proper formation of letters. As a certified teacher for over 27 years and an experienced reading specialist, I look forward to partnering with early readers as they grow into eager, mature readers!
Because this is a multi-sensory approach to learning to read, the learner will need: pipe cleaners, shaving cream, a cookie sheet, and/or play-dough. Each learner will also need a small dry erase board (9"x12"), 1 dry erase board eraser, 1 dry erase marker, 1 composition notebook, pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue.
