수업 소개

I believe that every child is an artist in their own right. Children are the most creative beings in the world.

What they don't often realize is that art comes in endless forms. That is my goal for this FLEX creative journey: For kids to tap into their endless potential for creativity and be inspired to create. The end result doesn't matter. The goal is to create. This is why our focus will be on process art.

Each week we will explore a different art technique and experience it with a hands-on art project. Supplies will be listed by week. While I attempt to keep the supply list limited to easy access and low cost items, if you have difficulty obtaining a supply please reach out. I am always happy to provide ideas for alternative supplies.

Please see the schedule below for what we will be working on each week.

Week 1: Abstract Watercolor
Week 2: Paint Pouring - Clean Pour
Week 3: Paperclip Bookmarks
Week 4: 3D Squishy
Week 5: Yarn Gnomes
Week 6: Paper Mosaic
Week 7: No sew pillow
Week 8: Sharpie Tie Dye
Week 9: Recycled Change Purse Critters
Week 10: Salted Watercolors
Week 11: Glue Drawing with Chalk
Week 12: DIY Window Clings
Week 13: Hydro-dipping
Week 14: Straw Weaving
Week 15: Balloon Paint Pouring
Week 16: Tissue Texture Painting

In addition to our weekly video, learners are welcome to post any form of creative expression that they would like at any time. It could be a poem they wrote, a song they sang, a photograph they took, a dance they performed, a sketch they drew, a painting, a sculpture, a clothing design, a robot, even a video game that they have designed. The options are endless. This is a great stepping stone for students who may not quite be comfortable speaking/performing in front of a "live" audience.

While I do believe in the power and value of constructive criticism, that is not what this class is intended for. I want learners to feel empowered and encouraged. Since the goal is not the end result, there is no "wrong" way to do art. All feedback should be encouraging.

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.

*If you don't see a time listed that works for you, please reach out. I am happy to add classes to accommodate students' schedules whenever I can. Thank you!*

Crafting can be an inherently messy activity. Please make sure that your learner has a space where they can see and follow our lesson, but also make a bit of a mess without ruining your favorite couch.

I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from ten to nineteen. We are diving into our 6th year of homeschool and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 19 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also certified in TESOL and Art Therapy.
