Beginner - Advanced
In this 8-week project-based course, students will dive into the world of scientific writing by asking their own research question related to science—then answering it through a fully developed, evidence-based analytical essay. Along the way, they’ll learn how to find and evaluate peer-reviewed research, build strong arguments, and communicate complex ideas clearly and confidently.

Each week, we’ll explore essential elements of scientific writing: forming strong research questions, analyzing sources, organizing evidence, addressing counterclaims, and writing clear, unbiased conclusions. Students will participate in journal clubs, peer review workshops, and mini-presentations that prepare them to share their research in a final creative or academic project of their choice.

Learners will receive direct, individualized feedback from the instructor—who holds a master’s degree in animal science, has published peer-reviewed research articles, and has taught scientific writing at the high school and college level.

Whether your learner is curious about how viruses spread, why volcanoes erupt, how AI is used in medicine, why flamingos balance on one leg, or what science can teach us about the world we live in—this course helps them dig deep and explore real answers.

Students will learn how to ask strong scientific questions, find and understand peer-reviewed research, and build a science-backed essay that communicates their findings with clarity, curiosity, and confidence. Along the way, they'll strengthen their research, writing, and critical thinking skills—essential tools for any future scientist or informed citizen.
