Join me as we examine the very unique geography of ancient Greece and how it influenced the early cultures that would eventually become the powerful city-states of Athens and Sparta. This class will cover Greek geography and how it influenced early cultures over a 50 minute class period. This course will be taught using visual aids via PowerPoint in a lecture-based format. Students will be able to locate significant geographical features in Greece. Students will be able to explain why geography influenced the culture of the early Greeks. Students will be able to explain why the Greeks were so influential in the development of the western world.
I am a licensed middle school and high social studies teacher in the state of Ohio. I have been teaching social studies to middle school students for the last four years. I have used this same lesson with students in the classroom and it has always been highly engaging. I also have a Bachelor's degree in both Education and History.
