Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
Welcome to EASY Interactive Earth Science for younger kids. This is an easier version of my Intro to Earth Science Series for a beginners level and more interactive introduction to this amazing subject. Weekly classes cover the full Earth Science curriculum covering different, but related, topics from Semester 1 in Autumn to Semseter 2 in Spring time.

I will introduce each topic in a Lecture style format using PowerPoint and images and videos where appropriate. Then we will pause to do an interactive task together like drawing and labelling a volcano. So this class style will have more time for discussion and student input.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬
I use PowerPoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia (photos & videos) which I think makes the class more accessible and interesting. I use educational videos regularly in my classes where this improves the quality of the teaching.

This class will be in a lecture style where students are reminded they can ask questions at any time and I do enjoy questions. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like - speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ COMMUNICATIONS ▬▬▬▬▬
Please contact me to arrange either one-off or ongoing bespoke 1-to1 tuition sessions.

I generally reply within a few hours during term time weekdays. I try and reply within one working day. Please bear in mind I am on UK time, so at least 5 to 8 hours ahead of the USA.

If you try my class and it is not quite right, then I don't want anyone to leave unhappy, please contact me and I can help.

Just contact me if you have any further questions, I am happy to help.

Lesson 1:
1) Introduction to Earth Science
In this class I give an overview of the course, covering the basics principles of Earth Science and the main topics we will cover. I also point out the many exciting careers that studying Earth Science can lead to and do a brief introduction into the formation of the Earth.

Lesson 2:
2) Geology 1: Minerals, Mining, Gems & Precious Metals
In this class we analyse the definition of a mineral and examine why some minerals are not gems and some gems are not minerals. We then look at precious metals and study why they are so rare and how we find and mine them.

Lesson 3:
3) Geology 2: Diffirent Rock Types
In this class we cover the 3 main rock types (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) and explore how they relate and transform into each other. We then look at the main Principles of Geology and examine how they help us understand the rock formations around us.

Lesson 4:
4) Geology 3: Dinosaurs & Sedimentary Rocks
In this class we cover the basics of the different types of sedimentary rocks and how to identify them. We then learn about different types of fossils and learn how dinosaur fossils are made.

Parental Guidance
Some classes talks about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensitive students may find these topics distressing.
