개나 고양이가 되는 법: 2일간의 정보적이고 창의적인 문단 쓰기

****Learners should know how to write a complete sentence before attending this class.***

Day 1-After a brief introduction to the topic and to each other, a slideshow will introduce students to the teacher's cats, Kirby and Tycho. Then, the first step in procedural writing will be modeled as the group works together to fill out a graphic organizer using the topic, "How to Be a Cat".  Next, students will learn about transition words, topic sentences, and closing sentences.  Finally, the class will collaborate to form a paragraph using the graphic organizer as a tool.

Day 2-The group will spend about ten minutes learning interesting facts about dogs with video clips and photos.  Students will brainstorm the silly and typical things that happen in the life of a dog. The young writers will be asked to work independently on filling out graphic organizers using the topic, "How to Be a Dog".  Everyone will use their organizers to write paragraphs independently using the same procedure that was followed on Day 1.  

The graphic organizer and writing worksheet will be provided ahead of time in the classroom for the students to print at home. At the conclusion of class, the teacher will use the spotlight feature in the Zoom classroom to view the final writing piece. Students will be offered positive and constructive feedback at that time. 

After each class, students may submit their final paragraph to me and I will check grammar, and spelling, plus provide feedback on content.

Parent Review June 30, 2021:  This is a great class. I like how the teacher picked a topic that kids love and then did the process with them the first time before giving them more independence on the second day to write their own ideas.  My daughter learned a lot from this class.
