Generally students only have homework if they didn't finish a lab, or if they need to do a quick (usually a page) reading for the next class. Over the 9-week course, there is one project that they will need to work on outside of class: Favorite Element Research. This project will be explained and supported in class, but will need to be finished OUTSIDE of class.학습 평가
As a teacher I am constantly assessing my students informally to make sure they are understanding the material. Upon the parent's request I can provide a written evaluation for completing the course.보고계신 지문은 자동 번역 되었습니다

This hands-on, interactive science class gives students in GRADES 4-6 a foundation in the basics of chemistry. Through experiments, engaging books, and fascinating, interactive science videos, students discover what matter is made of and how it interacts. The class uses the R.E.A.L Science Odyssey curriculum as a base, and also incorporates other projects, activities, and experiments to deepen student understandings. Students in this class design experiments, do research projects, and learn to think like scientists. All while having fun! This class MAY be taken as a stand-alone class, but it is also designed to be part of a full-year 36-week science curriculum for grades 3-5. This class is PART 2 of 4. PART 1: Intro to Chemistry PART 2 (this class): The Periodic Table PART 3: Molecules & Matter PART 4: Reactions ****************************** STRUCTURE OF CLASS ****************************** Each class is 45 minutes in length and consists of a variety of activities, depending on the topic being studied. Learning activities in this class include, experiments, discussions, engaging videos, and the following projects: -atomic number flipbook -research an element -element book ************* FALL 2023 ************* Below is a breakdown of topics covered each week in class. WEEK 1 (OCT 10): Periodic Table -LAB: My Periodic Table -Research: Favorite Element Research Project -Project: Atomic Number Flipbook WEEK 2 (OCT 17): Periodic Table -Read: The Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: Which weighs more? WEEK 3 (OCT 24): Periodic Table -LAB: Borax Bouncy Balls; Prove It WEEK 4 (OCT 31): Elements -Read: Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: Eating Hockey Pucks; Twenty Questions -Element Book: Assembly WEEK 5 (NOV 7): Elements -Read: Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: The Incredible Floating Egg; Crystal Creation -Element Book: Group 1 WEEK 6 (NOV 14): Elements -Read: Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: Crystal Creation, part 2; Borax Crystal Shapes -Element Book: Groups 2 & 13 WEEK 7 (NOV 28): Elements -Read: Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: S'more Carbon; Carbon Snake; Carbon Drawing -Element Book: Groups 14 & 15 WEEK 8 (DEC 5): Elements -Read: Mystery of the Periodic Table -LAB: Bubble Trouble; Elephant Toothpaste; Dancing Drops; Broken Tooth Element Book: Group 16 WEEK 9 (DEC 12): Elements -LAB: Tooth in Vinegar -The Incredible Shrinking Balloon -Element Book: Groups 17 & 18 ***************************** CLASS EXPECTATIONS ***************************** Students are expected to come to class prepared and to actively participate in class discussions, journaling, projects, and assignments. They will need a copy of the STUDENT PAGES, which will be their Science Journal for class. Due to copyright laws, I cannot provide copies to students. You must purchase it directly from REAL Science Odyssey. The link is included in the materials section. An eBook is $19, and a printed book is $28. This journal will be what your student will use through ALL FOUR PARTS OF THE SERIES, so you will only need to make one purchase for the entire year. Students are NOT required to do all of the experiments. If your student wishes to participate in the experiments, there are supplies you will need to purchase. Participation is always optional, but highly encouraged, as this is where a lot of learning takes place. I always demonstrate the experiments for any student who cannot or does not wish to participate. Therefore, ALL STUDENTS SHOULD COMPLETE THE JOURNALING, regardless of participation in experiments. ******************************* MULTI-CLASS DISCOUNT ******************************* Students who enroll in all 4 parts of this class at the same time will receive a 20% discount. Please message me for a discount code.
