공포 캠프: 무서운 영화와 비판적 사고

Every week in this ongoing class, we will discuss a popular horror film, ranging from classics from the 1980s to today and everything in-between.  Film viewings will take place outside of class time. All films will be available for purchase or rental on popular digital platforms such as Amazon or iTunes, for streaming on popular streaming platforms such as Netflix or Hulu, for purchase on DVD or Blu-Ray, or even available for free checkout at your local library.  In the event that we are watching a film that is obscure or otherwise hard to procure, the teacher will provide a link for viewing.

Films may be rated PG-13 or R.  Traditional R-rated films may be included.  Parental discretion is advised at all times.  No deviations will occur from the film viewings list below.  Regardless of rating, films may contain scenes of graphic violence, bad language, and other adult content.

Students will reflect, analyze, structure arguments to defend and debate viewpoints, discuss issues, record information and observations, and make assumptions about our weekly viewing.  While some class time will be devoted to the history and backstory of each film, along with a detailed discussion allowing for students to converse with the teacher and their peers, we will also spend considerable time discussing the film as it relates to critical thinking and our ultimate aim to become a “better thinker” in all aspects of our life.  Short video clips may be utilized to emphasize certain points.

The rating of each movie is below.  Movies may contain graphic violence, depictions of murder, frightening scenes, adult content, and bad language.  Parents are strongly encouraged to check out the Common Sense Media rating or IMDB Parent's Guide for each film before viewing.

Please note: I will stay in communication with parents and learners, but for any section of this class to meet, at least three to four learners must be enrolled.  Any section without three learners will be cancelled and refunded.  This is because for this class to be successful, there need to be enough learners to have a good, hearty discussion.
