In this course we read and study literature but we also watch film adaptations of these classic time pieces and offer a complete educational study of these works. This is a different way to learn that is often implemented in classrooms sparingly but offers such interest that students are able to engage and stay interested and therefore learn and retain more. Join today to ensure your spot. This course is Part 1 of 2. The classic literature reviewed in each course is listed below; IN PART 1 "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austin "Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell " The North Wind and the Sun" Aesop IN PART 2 "Animal Farm"by George Orwell "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes " The Lion and the Mouse" Aesop " Midsummer's Night Dream" by Shakespeare WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE? This course is a study of class literature, an Analysis of Literature as told through film adaptations. THIS IS NOT AN ACTING OR DRAMA COURSE> IT IS A LITERATURE COURSE AND STUDIES CLASSICS> WE DO HOWEVER READ FROM SPECIFIC LITERATURE PIECES AS WELL AS WATCH THE MOVIES. This course explores classic literature through the lens of film adaptations or movies made from that specific piece of literature. Students will engage with the original texts and examine corresponding films or selected film segments that interpret the literature. Through character studies, plot comparisons, and various analytical methods, students will compare, contrast, and re-examine these timeless works, gaining deeper insight into both the written and cinematic representations. 🍏KEEPS STUDENTS MOTIVATED: The combination of reading and watching makes learning interactive, appealing to a variety of learning styles. It breaks away from traditional classroom methods and allows for creative discussions, character studies, and engaging projects that appeal to a young audience. By making literature study dynamic, it keeps students motivated and curious. 🍏SIMPLIFIES COMPLEX IDEAS: Films can also help students better understand difficult or abstract themes present in classic literature. The visual and auditory elements provide context for challenging concepts, making it easier for middle schoolers to grasp underlying messages and appreciate the deeper layers of the text. 🍏CONNECTIONS TO MODERN CULTURE: Many classic stories have been retold in modern films or updated with contemporary settings and characters. These adaptations allow students to see how timeless themes—like friendship, adventure, and conflict—still resonate today. By relating the literature to something they already enjoy (movies), they can connect with the material more personally. HOW IS THE CLASS STRUCTURED? Students will be assigned readings from the literature or will watch specific films related to the texts. After completing the reading or viewing, students will meet for discussions where they will analyze key themes, characters, and plot elements. These discussions will involve comparing and contrasting the literary works with their film adaptations, exploring how the stories are interpreted differently across mediums. Additionally, students will engage in character studies, plot breakdowns, and other analytical activities to deepen their understanding of the material. The course will encourage critical thinking through group discussions, written reflections, and interactive projects that connect the literature to its cinematic portrayal. INTERACTION: Students will gain a deeper understanding of the material through active interaction with both their peers and the teacher. Collaborative discussions, group activities, and teacher-guided analysis will foster a dynamic learning environment, encouraging students to share insights, ask questions, and build on each other's ideas. This interactive approach will help students explore different perspectives and enhance their comprehension of both the literature and its film adaptations.

Personally, I absolutely love reading. There is a book by Dr Suess that really does so much more than entertain. It is called " Oh, the Places You Will Go." This book truely sets people of all ages up for success! While there are many quotes I could pull from this fabulous writing, my favorite is “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” - This quote emphasizes the idea of self-direction and the ability to choose your own path. I hope my guidance leads others to develop the confidence to choose the right path for them.
