The Prehistoric World is taught through 6 lessons: The Beginning of Life, Evolution, Dinosaurs, Early Humans, Coming out of the Caves and Early Civilisations. We learn about early forms of life and how they adapted to changing conditions on Earth. We will look at dinosaurs and explore how we know what is known today. We will learn about early humans and how they would have lived as hunter-gatherers, and how the discovery of fire helped them survive. We will explore the impact farming had, and how early civilisations evolved from the Stones Ages, through the Bronze Age to the Iron Age.

Each lesson has key vocabulary that is taught and used throughout the course. We start each lesson with the key vocabulary and explicitly highlight these throughout the text we read in each lesson. The text will be on the screen, while I read it aloud. We will have an opportunity to discuss what has been read to help clarify and summarise what we have learnt. There is then questions which we will discuss together, before learners have time to answer them themselves. For each slide with questions, there is a word bank with words they may need. Some questions are more open-ended, giving learners an opportunity to share their views and what they have personally learnt in the lesson. 

Each lesson has worksheets with the questions alongside the slides, so learners can fill in their own work. They will need to be printed and written on, or typed on, onscreen. This will help learners remember their ideas when we share our answers at the end. 

At the end of the course, after lesson 6, there is an opportunity for learners to share what they have learnt about the prehistoric world and how early civilisations changed and evolved. This is very open-ended and gives time for learners to show how their knowledge has progressed, whilst sharing what they found interesting.
