In this 6-week class flexible schedule class, students will learn about the different types of grammar mistakes that make their sentences (along with essays and other papers) confusing, faulty, or bland. Understanding and identifying these grammar mistakes will also help students with grammar questions on standardized tests like the SAT. Week 1Lesson 1Dangling and Misplaced ModifiersThis lesson is about misplaced phrases and clauses that cause a sentence to be misinterpreted or confusing to the reader.Week 2Lesson 2Passive VoiceThis lesson is about how to use active voice instead of passive voice when writing in order to create the most effective sentences.Week 3Lesson 3WordinessThis lesson is about structuring a sentence in a way that eliminates unnecessary words in order to create clear, concise sentences.Week 4Lesson 4Parallel StructureThis lesson is about putting phrases and words in a list in the same format in order to ensure the sentence is clear and balanced.Week 5Lesson 5Weak VerbsThis lesson is about creating sentences using the strongest, most effective verbs instead the weaker "be" verbs.Week 6Lesson 6Comma, Colons, and Semi-ColonsThis lesson is about using the correct punctuation in order to create unique and sophisticated sentences.
Students will learn how to write strong, coherent sentences in order to make their essays and research papers more concise and understandable.
