Week 1Lesson 1Journey to the ConstitutionOur first lesson details America's journey to the Constitution. Our first governing document, the Articles of Confederation, is covered in detail. Various influences on the structure of our Constitution, from philosophers to European documents to the experiences of the colonists are discussed.Week 2Lesson 2The Organization, Processes, and Principles of the ConstitutionOur second lesson discusses essential elements of our Constitution, from the way it organizes our government to the political processes it defines. Six key principles of the Constitution are introduced and explored.Week 3Lesson 3Political Process - LawmakingOur third lesson discusses the political process of lawmaking that is found in article one of the Constitution.Week 4Lesson 4Political Process - Electing the PresidentOur fourth lesson explores the process of how the president is chosen through the electoral college and the state-centered nature of our presidential elections.Week 5Lesson 5Political Process - Amending the ConstitutionOur fifth lesson details the process found in article five of the Constitution to amend itself, along with introducing the Bill of Rights.Week 6Lesson 6The Bill of Rights and Additional AmendmentsOur sixth lesson continues an in-depth exploration of the Bill of Rights and all of the amendments that have been added to the Constitution.Week 7Lesson 7First Amendment Freedoms - Wallace v. JaffreeOur seventh lesson walks students through the Supreme Court case, prayer in public schools, and the First Amendment issues at hand.Week 8Lesson 8First Amendment Freedoms - Tinker v. Des MoinesOur eighth lesson walks students through the Supreme Court case and the question of if public school students leave their First Amendment rights at the school door.
