includedClass Experience
Students with basic knowledge and experience with playing the ukulele will learn how to play more advanced chords, mixed or complex strumming techniques, while performing popular songs on the ukulele instrument. Relevant musical appreciation facts will also be taught to give the student a better understanding of the artist or song being featured (example: The song "Hound Dog" by Elvis was his first big hit and helped to launch his career into superstardom.) In each class, we will begin by reviewing the basic chord fingerings, strumming patterns, and chord notations for the music selections for that week. Then we will move on to practicing and performing the series of songs. Students will be taught how to strum in different rhythms to match each song tempo (example: DDU-UDU), as well as review and learn different types of chords and their finger positions (example: C#m7, Bb, A#, etc.). Students may also be introduced to reading the different notations for fingerpicking (during the specified meeting times in the schedule included below), in addition to gaining knowledge in reading and performing this style of ukulele music in a group setting. As this class is in an ongoing course format, concepts taught within this course will not build upon previous weeks nor will they be presented a sequential curriculum. **We will be playing popular, modern (but clean and PG) songs from the very first lesson; and although I have many music selections in my repertoire, I encourage students to request any song that they want to learn or love to listen to.** It is my goal to make the learning process fun, and encourage students to sing and participate by allowing each member to take turns strumming/playing their instrument at appropriate times during the lesson. Music is supposed to be enjoyable, and learning is easier when students are having a blast. Be sure to send me a message with any artist/song that the student likes and I will do everything I can to include something from it in the lesson content during our course. Be advised that I do NOT have any certifications or qualifications for teaching this class as a special education course for students with learning disabilities. Therefore I suggest that if your student has been diagnosed with a learning disability, that you look for and attain the services of a qualified music teacher in order to provide your student with the best educational opportunity. Thank you for understanding. Please refer to the weekly course breakdown schedule below to view the selection of themes featured each lesson. I look forward to when students are having a blast. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have experience teaching students ranging from grade school ages into adulthood, tutoring 1-on-1, and teaching large groups. I was a language and art/music teacher in Europe for about a year, while traveling around Europe and the UK, where students came to learn English and study various topics through theatre and play activities. In the past, I've also taught kindergarten through 5th grade students in a US public school, and I taught ESL online for nearly 3 years as a certified teacher.
I graduated in 2017 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying front-end web design while working as a private tutor and website creator. In my free time, I enjoy playing music on my ukulele, travel photography, and baking. I have a passion for all forms of art and the creative process that comes with it.
Whatever my current situation may be, I feel motivated to empower young students to realize their academic and creative potential through meaningful play and personal mentorship. I am looking forward to creating fun and productive courses through Outschool and I look forward to seeing you in my classroom soon!
