Why is grammar important? Simply, it improves communication. Proper grammar helps writers deliver a clear message both through the written and spoken word.

Grammar is the set of rules for how words, groups of words (phrases), and sentences can go together. Grammar is key for keeping writers organized while relaying a logical and clear message.  If you can’t understand and organize your own thoughts, how can you expect to deliver that message clearly to anyone else? Grammar is the tool writers use to make their ideas more complex and specific. This course covers word order, punctuation, tense, conjunctions/clauses, and much more. Not only will students correct text with errors, but they will write their own sentences/paragraphs throughout the class.

Week 1 | Topic - Review of Parts of Speech and Start Building Sentences
Week 2 | Topic - Discuss Subject & Predicate, Fragment vs. Run-on, and Review Adjective Word Order
Week 3 | Topic - Verbs: Subject & Verb Agreement, Helping Verbs, and Verb Tenses
Week 4 | Topic - Discuss Prepositional Phrases and Sentence Types/Clauses: How to Link Ideas With Conjunctions and Using Commas and Semicolons in Your Sentences

At the end of the class, students will be given a review packet for ongoing practice.
