Course Title: Social Success & Self-Esteem for Kids



Duration: 15 Weeks (1 Lesson per Week)

Target Age Group: Upper Elementary to Middle School

Objective:

Students will develop confidence, communication skills, and emotional awareness to build strong friendships, navigate social interactions, and maintain a positive self-image.



🌟 Week-by-Week Breakdown



Unit 1: Building Self-Esteem, Confidence & Success (Weeks 1-5)



Week 1: Understanding Self-Esteem

	•	Objective: Learn what self-esteem is and why it matters.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Self-Esteem Meter” – Rate how you feel about yourself in different areas.

	•	Discussion: What affects self-esteem?

	•	Create a “You Are Amazing” list with personal strengths.



Week 2: Positive Self-Talk & Growth Mindset

	•	Objective: Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Flip the Script” – Turn negative thoughts into positive ones.

	•	Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset sorting game.

	•	Make a “Power Statement” poster.



Week 3: Overcoming Self-Doubt & Fear of Failure

	•	Objective: Learn how to handle mistakes and setbacks.

	•	Activities:

	•	Read The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes (or similar book).

	•	Role-play handling mistakes in a positive way.

	•	Create “Mistakes Help Me Grow” journals.



Week 4: Body Language & Confident Communication

	•	Objective: Understand how body language impacts confidence.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Power Poses” exercise.

	•	Practicing eye contact and assertive speaking.

	•	Video clips: Identifying confident vs. unconfident body language.



Week 5: Identifying & Celebrating Strengths

	•	Objective: Discover personal strengths and talents.

	•	Activities:

	•	Strengths Scavenger Hunt (students identify their skills).

	•	Create a “Superpower Shield” with their top qualities.

	•	“Strengths Charades” – Act out strengths for classmates to guess.



Unit 2: Social Skills & Making Friends (Weeks 6-10)



Week 6: Understanding Friendship & What Makes a Good Friend

	•	Objective: Define qualities of a good friend.

	•	Activities:

	•	Friendship Brainstorm – What do you look for in a friend?

	•	Read How to Be a Friend by Laurie Krasny Brown.

	•	“Friendship Recipe” – Mix ingredients for a great friendship.



Week 7: Starting Conversations & Keeping Them Going

	•	Objective: Learn how to approach and engage with others.

	•	Activities:

	•	Practice conversation starters in pairs.

	•	“What Would You Say?” response challenge.

	•	Role-play different social scenarios.



Week 8: Active Listening & Showing Interest

	•	Objective: Improve listening skills to build better relationships.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Echo Game” – Repeat and reflect on what someone says.

	•	Eye Contact & Nonverbal Cues practice.

	•	Listening Skills Bingo.



Week 9: Handling Social Anxiety & Nervousness

	•	Objective: Reduce nervousness in social situations.

	•	Activities:

	•	Relaxation strategies (breathing exercises, visualization).

	•	“Confidence Role-Play” – Practicing small talk.

	•	Personal action plan for managing social anxiety.



Week 10: Navigating Peer Pressure & Social Expectations

	•	Objective: Learn how to stay true to yourself in social situations.

	•	Activities:

	•	“What Would You Do?” peer pressure scenarios.

	•	Group discussion on standing up for personal values.

	•	Assertive vs. Passive vs. Aggressive response practice.



Unit 3: Conflict Resolution & Social Awareness (Weeks 11-15)



Week 11: Managing Disagreements & Conflict Resolution

	•	Objective: Learn healthy ways to resolve conflicts.

	•	Activities:

	•	“I-Statements” practice (e.g., “I feel ___ when ___”).

	•	Role-play common conflicts and solutions.

	•	“Peace Path” step-by-step conflict resolution.



Week 12: Recognizing & Handling Bullying

	•	Objective: Understand different types of bullying and how to respond.

	•	Activities:

	•	Group discussion: What is bullying? How does it feel?

	•	“Upstander Training” – How to support someone being bullied.

	•	Create anti-bullying posters.



Week 13: Empathy & Perspective-Taking

	•	Objective: Learn to understand others’ feelings and perspectives.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Step Into My Shoes” empathy role-play.

	•	Watch short video clips and discuss emotions.

	•	Write a letter from someone else’s perspective.



Week 14: Digital Citizenship & Social Media Etiquette

	•	Objective: Learn respectful online communication and boundaries.

	•	Activities:

	•	“Good Idea or Bad Idea?” online behavior sorting game.

	•	Read and discuss digital etiquette scenarios.

	•	Personal “Digital Code of Conduct” contract.



Week 15: Reflection & Social Success Plan

	•	Objective: Review and set personal goals for continued growth.

	•	Activities:

	•	Reflect on personal growth through the course.

	•	Create a “Social Superhero” certificate for classmates.

	•	Set one goal for self-esteem and one for friendships.



🌟 Final Project (Optional): Social Success Portfolio



At the end of the course, students compile:

✅ Their “Superpower Shield” (Week 5)

✅ Their Personal Action Plan (Week 9)

✅ Their Digital Code of Conduct (Week 14)

✅ A personal reflection letter on what they’ve learned
