Keep your reading and writing skills strong this summer with our engaging and interactive Grade 6 ELA Summer Camp! This 4-week course is designed to prevent the summer slide while preparing students for the challenges of the upcoming school year. Through exciting discussions, hands-on activities, and interactive lessons, students will review key literacy skills in reading comprehension, grammar, writing, word study, and research.

𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗

✏️ 𝙒𝙀𝙀𝙆 𝟭 kicks off with analyzing theme, central idea, character development, and plot while learning to write effective summaries. Then, we’ll explore informational texts, examining their structure and how to pull key details from nonfiction writing.

📝 𝙒𝙀𝙀𝙆 𝟮 sharpens vocabulary and sentence-building skills. Students will use context clues, dictionaries, and thesauruses to understand words in depth. Then, we’ll dive into parts of speech and crafting complex and compound sentences for clear, powerful writing.

📚 𝙒𝙀𝙀𝙆 𝟯 builds research and writing confidence. Students will learn how to evaluate sources, take notes, and organize information for research projects. Next, they’ll practice argumentative writing, developing a strong thesis, supporting claims, and integrating evidence from reliable sources.

📒 𝙒𝙀𝙀𝙆 𝟰 focuses on narrative writing, where students will develop characters, setting, and plot to create compelling stories. Finally, we’ll wrap up with presentation skills, allowing students to confidently present one of their written pieces to the class.


𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘

This class is designed to be engaging, interactive, and productive! Students will learn through a mix of lectures, games, discussions, slides, video clips, and hands-on activities. Graphic organizers and worksheets will help students practice their skills, while optional review sheets allow for additional learning outside of class time.


𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗬𝗟𝗘

Students will have plenty of opportunities to interact with the teacher and classmates through group discussions, activities, and practice exercises. Each session encourages participation, ensuring that all students get a chance to apply their learning and strengthen their confidence.
