This class is all about giving! The best presents are those from the heart, and there is nothing that people need more than knowing how much they are loved and appreciated. Take this opportunity to write and revise a piece of writing that you can give to a loved one as a gift for an upcoming holiday, birthday, or just because. Maybe you want to compose a poem or write about a favorite memory in memoir form. Maybe you want to write a fiction story or a pretend interview. The possibilities are...
Students will learn writing techniques for both narrative and poetry. They will learn the importance and necessity of the revision process in order to make a piece of writing the best it can be, and will learn techniques to write with feeling.
I have been teaching writing for over 15 years, and one of my favorite things to do is to give gifts of writing to people I love. :)

Learners will need a paper and pen or a computer document to write on.

Students may choose to use Google classroom or Canva to work on and share their writing pieces. An account for either of these is not required to attend this class, however. If a student does not have access or would rather work on paper or another way, that is fine. I will also be using screen-share to show examples and instruction.
We will refer to lessons originally published in Nancy Atwell's book Lessons that Change Writers.
