수업 소개
In these one-on-one classes, intended to be scheduled on a weekly or biweekly basis, Miss Sue or Miss Olivia will teach you or your child how to play the piano. We will begin with the foundations of music theory and play songs of progressive difficulty, until you are an independent piano pro! We believe learning should be fun, so lessons will consist of a mix of playing songs, music theory activities, and educational games. We are practitioners of the Montessori method, which focuses on...

- Students will gain a foundation in music theory and independent piano playing. We will study rhythms and counting, note recognition and reading, musical expressions and artistry, and chord theory and progressions. With more advanced students, we may elect to work on composing/song-writing and dive into music history topics as well. Understanding music history can help to place songs in context, and make one a better musician.
Miss Sue: After founding and running a music school in Seattle for 16 years, I ventured off on my own in 2022 pursuing more teaching and less being the boss. I'm thrilled to be connecting with East Coast kids on here that can see me online when I'm not in lessons with my Seattle kids! I grew up in New York and consider myself an East Coaster at heart still, so I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience as a piano teacher with new families from other parts of the US. I am a very fun and engaged teacher, tailoring each lesson to what the student needs. I am very tech savvy and use a lot of tools within our zoom lessons. I create content for Melody Music Co-op's You Tube channel so check me out! I might be famous someday and then you can say that you knew me! Lol! I have taught ABRSM for 6 years, used primarily Faber and Alfred's curriculums in my teaching, but I know EVERY BOOK for piano so I often pull in relevant and fun materials from other books to share with you on our musical journey. I also have almost 30 years of experience working with kids on the neurodiverse spectrum and in my former professional life, I was a cognitive/behavior therapist, long before DBT became a thing. I am widely known as a wonderful teacher for kids on the autism spectrum in the Seattle/Eastside areas. I'm also a composer of musicals and have had my shows performed on big-venue stages in the Seattle area. I've directed over 50 full length musicals and one acts for summer camps, school groups, and for after-school drama programs. I'm currently teaching acting and directing to college students. So much fun! Come and meet me! I look forward to meeting you! Miss Olivia: Given that my mom is a composer and piano teacher, I have been musically-minded my entire life. I started teaching private piano and voice lessons when I was 16, and have now been going strong for 8 years, teaching kids, teens and adults both in-person and online. My youngest student was just 3 years old, and my oldest is currently 77! While my approach is grounded in classical piano methods with an emphasis on learning music theory, I love to help students explore other genres of music that are exciting to them. My personal areas of specialty are classical piano, musical theatre, and jazz. I took classical piano lessons for 12 years, studied classical voice for 8 years, and performed in more than 15 stage musicals with school, community theatre, and local professional groups. I also spent 8 years playing saxophone and singing with jazz bands in the Seattle area. I have been a member of funk bands, a capella groups, gospel choirs, and even composed several of my own orchestral pieces. My multifaceted musical background allows me to introduce students to a wide variety of musical styles and pursue directions that resonate with them the most. In addition to teaching private piano and voice, I have assistant directed a family community theatre production, facilitated piano- and music-themed summer camps, and volunteered leading music classes for kids at a community home in Bolivia. I love music!

Homework
빈도: Available upon request피드백: Available upon request세부 내용: After each session, we will send the assignments for the week to the parent's email via the Outschool Messaging system. This will usually include a few songs and piano exercises to practice, along with some specific notes on what to focus on. Learners will progress at different paces based on how often they practice. We typically recommend trying for 10 minutes a day for kids 8 and under, and 20 minutes a day for kids 9+. Older teens may be willing to invest even more time, but consistency is better than one long practice session once a week!
등록 시 1개의 파일을 볼 수 있어요.Students will be expected to have a set of lesson books to work out of, at a cost of about $15-20 per kid. The specific books will vary based on student age and experience level, and will be recommended by Olivia or Sue on a personalized basis.
For kids and younger teens, we like to work through the Faber Piano Adventures Curriculum together, using both the Lesson Book and Theory Book. For older teens, we will use the Bastien Piano for Adults series as our guide. All of these materials can be purchased online as well as in music stores near you.
