*We will begin class by introducing ourselves and singing our "Hello" song. *We will sing a variety of original bird songs and read and act out original Poems about birds, as time allows. *Students will create their own homemade bird feeder. Be sure to check the supply list for everything we will need during class! *We will take turns talking about the birds we see in our own backyards, reinforcing colors, shapes, and sizes. *We will conclude class by sharing our finished bird feeders. During class, students will develop: *Math skills such as: shapes and size. *Science skills such as: basic colors and food birds eat. *Creative Arts such as: creating, singing, dancing, and movement. *Social Skills such as: taking turns, listening, sharing, communicating, and practical problem-solving.
Students will need: *Pine Cones to make the bird feeder. This can be a fun outdoor activity. *OR, Students can use an empty toilet paper roll. *Creamy Peanut butter, SunButter, Almond butter, or other allergy friendly option. Birds also love these alternatives! *Bird seed *One piece of string. (This will be used to hang the bird feeder.) *Plastic knife or plastic/silicone spatula *Old t-shirt or smock to protect clothing *I suggest using a large cookie tray. This will help keep the bird seed contained.

Parents will need to help and supervise during the bird feeder portion of the lesson. Also, this activity requires a peanut butter type product. For anyone with possible peanut allergies, you can use any of the allergy friendly alternatives. Some of these options include: SunButter and almond butter. Birds love these, too!
