In this lesson, students will be able to create a watercolor resist birch tree painting. I will be discussing the elements of art as we draw and paint and I will teach basic watercolor techniques, hints, and tricks. I will first do a directed drawing of the birch tree while students follow along and then we will be painting our background. Students will improve their understanding of drawing and the watercolor painting technique. They will also improve their understanding of the elements of art, specifically line, texture, value, and color.
Students will need watercolor paper (or some type of thick paper), watercolor paint, a paintbrush, pencil, eraser, a crayon or sharpie, salt, and a water dish.
