Is your child ready to master the skills of their letters/sounds and sight words? Or they might need a little more support with in mastering their letters/sounds and sight words? I am here to help, and support you! 

In this class, we’ll have a super fun and interactive learning experience. We’ll use the Orton-Gillingham and The Science of Reading approaches to teach you your letters, sounds, and sight words. We’ll start with picture deck cards that show you the letters and sounds, and we’ll use hand gestures to help you remember them. We’ll also have catchy songs and even some dance moves to make learning more engaging. We’ll spend a week at a time learning two letters, sounds, and a sight word. I’ll be using lots of different activities to help you learn and practice. I’ll also attach some worksheets to our classroom for extra support and practice.  

Here’s what students will be doing:

1. They’ll be using their hands to trace and write each letter and sound as they learn them. I’ve also got Google slides with tracing templates for each letter we learn.

2. They’ll be using digital letter tiles.

3. We’ll have interactive games, play-dough activities, and matching letters to sounds. There’s a lot more to come!

Orton-Gillingham once said, "For students to be stronger readers, reading is divided into three stages!"

1. "Letter-sound knowledge is very essential for both phonic decoding and sight- word learning."

2. Phonic Decoding- "Early phonological awareness skills enable development of letter-sound knowledge. Advanced phonological awareness skills should continue to be assessed and practiced to ensure that a solid orthographic is established."

3.  "Ortho Mapping (How the mouth looks when saying the sound) is the process what occurs when unfamiliar words become automatic sight words."

Science of Reading expert, David Kilpatrick stated, “We teach reading in different ways; they learn to read proficiently in only one way.”
