Throughout all of my classroom teaching and private tutoring experience, it has become clear that most students struggle with the concept of fractions. I have found that even the most advanced grade 11 and 12 students will still have gaps in their knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and simplifying fractions. These are all CRUCIAL foundational skills to have in order to succeed in secondary and post-secondary math. 

💪 During this 5-week, 10-part course, students will gain the skills to be confident when working with fractions.

👩‍🎓 This course will be mostly teacher-led with an interactive slide presentation while students fill in the provided lesson sheets and practice problem sets. I ask a lot of questions during lessons to make sure learners are engaged and encourage questions from learners! Some classes will end with an interactive game (Kahoot!) to reinforce the session's learning goals. At the end of the course, students will complete a short assessment as evidence of their learning and a certificate will be sent out to successful learners!

In this course, students will gain a thorough understanding of fractions, covering everything from the basics to more advanced concepts. The key areas of focus will include:

✅ Identifying and representing fractions
✅ Comparing and ordering fractions
✅ Determining equivalent fractions 
✅ Simplifying fractions by reducing them
✅ Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions
✅ Working with and converting between mixed numbers, proper, and improper fractions
✅ Solving word problems that involve fractions

✔ Blank lesson notes and homework sheets will be sent to parents prior to the first day of class. 
❗ The course is most effective if you have access to a printer. 
Options:
1) Print everything out before the first day of class. (Approx 130 pages, 65 pages double-sided)
2) Print material off before each class. 
3) No printer, no problem! Copy down important questions in a notebook. Please keep it organized.
