In this course, learners will have designated days for certain aspects of the newspaper process while being socially distant and virtual. Each week will follow the same pattern- 1. Week 1Lesson 1Intro to News WritingLearners will learn how to write news articles, as well as learn tips and tricks for citing information and conducting interviews.Week 2Lesson 2Intro to Feature WritingLearners will use their skills from week 1 to pivot to the "features" section of the newspaper.Week 3Lesson 3Intro to Sports WritingLearners will learn how to write effective sports articles.Week 4Lesson 4Intro to ReviewsLearners will learn how to write reviews, as well as how to convey opinions effectively, persuasively, and factually.Week 5Lesson 5Intro to Opinions/Editorial WritingLearners will create opinion or editorial articles based on an angle they like in their given topic.Week 6Lesson 6Reporters' Pick Week 1Learners will get to choose which section of the news paper they will write an article in, submitting their articles to the instructor the following Monday.Week 7Lesson 7Reporters' Pick Week 2Learners will get to choose which section of the news paper they will write an article in, submitting their articles to the instructor the following Monday.Week 8Lesson 8Catch upThis week, learners can re-submit work as well as catch up with any articles they may not have gotten finished prior.
Learners will sharpen their writing skills while working on a deadline, creating new work each week, and connecting with a new style of writing.
