In this course, we will read through the first book of the Harry Potter series together. Each week, I will assign independent reading portions and discussion questions associated with each portion.

We will complete activities to engage students in character and plot development, character perspectives, moral dilemmas, and creative writing. Students will also learn about leadership, friendship, and character traits such as humility, honesty, etc.

I will update the lesson plans as we progress each week through this course, however the course will follow this sequence:
- Week 1: Introduction to the series and character profiles. We will also discuss reading comprehension and literary components such as author's purpose, writing style, descriptive language, and more!
- Week 2: We will discuss portions of the book read so far, and engage in comprehensive discussion about character motivations and intent, setting, and plot development.
- Week 3: Students will build a "Hogwarts" school of their own, incorporating parts of the story and building characters, classes, and more.
- Week 4: Students will discuss character profiles and choose a supporting character to write a short story about within the context of the story.
- Week 5: Students will discuss plot development and the motivations of main/ supporting characters. Students will also make predictions about how the story will resolve.
- Week 6: Students will discuss the resolution of the story and incorporate parts of the story to discuss alternative endings.

No prior knowledge is required for this course. Students who have already read the series are welcome to join as are students who have never read the books. The Harry Potter series is filled with good values and lessons for school-aged students, as well relatability with the challenges of youth and coming of age. I will guide your students through this book in order to ensure that they take the maximum benefit from this classic young adult series! Students will be so mesmerized by the story, that they will not even realize how much they are learning, both in academics and in real-life skills!
