FLEX 수업 - 감정 조절, 분노 극복

주당 1시간. Each week learners will be expected to complete an assignment. It may be a worksheet, an interactive activity or a reflection of the material presented that week. All learners are encouraged to post at least once per week in the classroom.

Please note that this a flex class, there will be no live meetings.

During this 4 week class, learners will review what anger is, how we can recognize and acknowledge it, and the best, most positive ways we can move through anger. Learner to learner interaction is encouraged through posts and replies within the Outschool classroom. Fun and interactive activities will be used to help learners understand the concepts being taught. Scenario examples, videos, crafts, as well as other engaging materials will be utilized throughout the 4 weeks. 

Each week on Sunday, the teacher will introduce the topic for that week. Learners will then receive a link to a video, slides/notes, or a worksheet and the weekly task that they will complete prior to the Saturday of that same week. Learners are encouraged to post their finished assignment either in the classroom or, through a private message to the teacher, through Outschool. This class is designed to be interactive so the more you put in (posting, replying, sharing, asking questions, completing the weekly assignment) the more you'll get out of it.

The class will be structured as follows:

Each Sunday - The weekly topic is introduced. Any video links, notes or slides, will be posted in the classroom, as well as the weekly assignment.

Each Monday and Tuesday - Learners will have an opportunity to review all posted materials and post any questions or reflections from the previously posted materials, within the classroom. The teacher is available to review posts, messages, and/or questions.

Each Wednesday - The teacher will post a reflection question in the classroom, from the weekly material. Learners are encouraged to reply to the question and/or to other learners' replies/reflections.

Each Thursday and Friday - The teacher is available to review posts, messages, and/or questions. 

Each Saturday - The weekly assignment is to be handed in via the classroom or by private messaging the material to the teacher.

This is the class's weekly schedule:
Week 1: We will cover what is anger is, what it means to us and how other feelings may be embedded in our anger. Learners will have the option make an art piece using pictures and/or words.

Week 2: We will focus on various triggers this week using scenarios and discussions within the classroom. Each learner will receive a worksheet to fill out.

Week 3: We will focus on what physiological symptoms occur within our bodies to alert us that we have become angry and the importance of the early signs. Learners will receive a link to video and be asked to reflect on questions posed by the teacher.

Week 4: We will make our coping choice board this week and discuss coping strategies. Learners will create this based on the strategies they choose with the printable the teacher provides.

Learners do not need any previous skills or experience to participate in this class.

Ms. Sheera has a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child and Youth Care and a 3-year college Diploma in Child and Youth Work. She has been creating and facilitating emotional regulation groups for over 20 years in numerous environments, such as in schools, group home facilities and community centres; and with a variety of children and youth (i.e. children and youth with ASD, ADHD, OD, CD, anxiety diagnoses, as well as neurotypical children and youth). 
Ms. Sheera has the following training certifications and continuously participates in professional learning opportunities:
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification
- Mental Health First Aid certification
- Understanding and Intervening in the Cycle of Youth Violence training
- Single Sessions Counselling certification
- Courageous Conversations, Confronting Racial Discrimination and Anti-Black Racism (monthly ongoing opportunity)
- Indigenous Perspectives on Mental Health and Trauma training sessions
Ms. Sheera is also a Professional Member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care.
Ms. Sheera is a neurodivergent educator with an ADHD diagnosis.
