Welcome to American Sign Language 101! This class is an introductory course on American Sign Language, or ASL. Learners do not need to know ASL prior to attending this class. The class is designed for learners ages 11 to 14. ASL classes are usually taught as a voice-off where the teacher only uses ASL to communicate and teach learners. Learners will learn the alphabet, numbers, phrases and vocabulary in American Sign Language. Additionally, learners will learn about Deaf Culture and ASL grammar.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired K-12 and Elementary Education K-6. I have served as a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for 10 years. I have worked with students who use ASL as a primary language and with ASL interpreters. I took four years of ASL classes in college. I have taught a few introductory ASL classes on Outschool to learners ages 7 to 12.
