I am a 2nd degree MMA black belt, and a Jiu Jitsu purple belt. I have been instruction martial arts to kids and adults for 4+ years.
A bag (hanging or freestanding) is required. Should a student not have a bag and still feel like this is a class they want to take, they may absolutely shadowbox (i.e. do the moves in the air), but please know that I will not be discussing some of the differences (like the follow through on thai kicks on a bag vs. in the air). Students should also consider (though not required) a pair of boxing gloves.
Students should be in good physical health and be cleared by their doctor for physical, cardio workouts. Students should have water nearby, a clear space to workout in around their bag, and comfortable clothing for movement. Boxing gloves are ideal for protecting hands, though not required. Shoes are acceptable but bare (sock less) feet are preferable.
