One of my favorite authors to introduce children to the wonders of nature study is Thornton W. Burgess. In this ongoing Charlotte Mason inspired class, we will use "The Burgess Bird Book for Children" by Thornton W. Burgess to explore the world of birds. While some animals appear in multiple chapters, the chapters mostly stand alone. Learners are welcome to join the class at any time. Each class will follow a similar schedule: 1. I have taught science and agriculture for many years as a high school teacher and now as a homeschool parent. I have always loved nature, but I became more passionate about nature study when I became a certified naturalist.
Homework

REQUIRED: Please bring the following materials to class: Nature journal (or plain paper for drawing birds) Pencil Colored pencils, markers, crayons, or other art supplies to draw birds OPTIONAL: Families that want to learn more may want to purchase a bird feeder or nesting box for their backyard. I will sometimes share opportunities to learn more, but these resources and suggestions will be optional.
No outside sources are necessary. Learners are not required to have a copy of "The Burgess Bird Book for Children." You may view the book for free at Project Gutenberg https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/3074/pg3074-images.html or purchase the book from your local bookstore.
