Learners will be taught the fundamental basics of writing an essay. They will learn about creating an introductory opening, body, and closing in their essays. This a lecture-style lesson in which learners will be writing along with the teacher who will be modeling an essay. Learners will participate in a Q and A format and will begin demonstrating effective writing skills with the teacher during the session. Learners do not need to have much experience with writing an essay, but should at least know that an essay has an opening, body, and a closing.

Learners will need something to write with (pencil) and notebook paper to write on during the session. If learners do not have these items on hand at home they can be purchased at their local area Dollar Tree $1.00 per item, or a store like Big Lot's, Target/Walmart for around $2.00 per item depending on where they are located.
