US Grade 4 - 7
Intermediate Level
*Hello! I have returned from a Hiatus and am taking students again! Please check out my new schedule openings! English can be a very challenging language to learn. I am here to help! I follow the common core standards for each grade level in reading. For example, if you have a 7th grader that is reading closer to a 5th grade reading level, no problem! We will start there and work our way up! According to and closely following common core, I will strive to make sure the student is able to read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. We will read grade level prose and poetry orally with accuracy, as well as novels that the student helps to choose. I will help the student to use context to confirm or self correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary. On the contrary, if the student is ready for grade 7 material, the lesson would change to appropriately challenge them, once again, following closely the common core standards for that grade level, such as interpreting, analyzing, and evaluating what they read. In a typical lesson for this grade level, your child will be taught to support all statements and claims with anecdotes, descriptions, facts and statistics, and specific examples. Presenting a variety reading materials, and with much discussion during class, my goal is to help the student read with ease and confidence, as this is the key that unlocks much learning potential for them. Many writing activities will follow our reading lessons. Writing activities will include persuasive, descriptive, argumentative, and narrative essays.
Learning Goals
The student will quickly increase reading levels and will write in response to reading with clear arguments and supporting evidence, with a formal or informal tone, including research and facts, with linking words and phrases, and a strong conclusion.
