Did you know that some species of bee employ a technique called sonication, or buzz pollination, when they harvest pollen? Mrs. Collins has taught topics in the UGA Entomology For Teachers class, has insects she has collected on display at the UGA Natural History Museum and currently teaches entomology on Outschool and in the school system.
spiral notebook pencil coloring pencils paper mache supplies: newspaper strips, flour and salt, glue (or PVA glue or wallpaper paste), vaseline, paintbrush, acrylic paints bowl or large container heavy duty balloon Water Your base structure for the hive (could be a large balloon or something else chenille sticks (black) juice box construction paper cheese puffs or Cheetos scissors glue (some parents have said that a hot glue gun is beneficial for the mache process) honey to try and taste during honey unit 1/2 teaspoon yellow Jello 1/2 teaspoon blue jello powder or Kool Aid craft stick or straw tape spray bottle filled with water
No third party apps will be used except for Youtube for summary videos. Parents will be needed during this class-for the first week to help the student with practice assignments and for the mache project. Please check the class wall, student spiral, and your parent inbox regularly. This class involves the student making a paper mache hive. They are many different recipes to make paper mache. I will provide a how to link and video, but you can use whatever method you prefer. The student will need help to make the mache hive because of the supplies needed. Some use a hot glue gun and various types of glues, so please supervise.
