Traditional/native and translated stories, poetry, and songs are integrated throughout the course and focus on building vocabulary, reading and responding to simple texts, and basic conversation skills. Students will learn Spanish relevant to their lives using literature, songs, and in-class speaking practice and games. By the end of class, students will have the tools to greet, talk about themselves, their family, school, hobbies and pastimes within their routines. Students will also be introduced to beginning reading. The following content is integrated in the session topics: Spanish alphabet and pronunciation Introduction to reading Spanish Numbers to 100 Days of the week Months of the year Telling time SESSION TOPICS Session 1 - Intro, part 1 Session 2 - Intro, part 2 Session 3 - Intro, part 3 Session 4 - Intro, part 4 Session 5 - Game review Session 6 - Presentations Session 7 - Cultural Connections Session 8 - Family and home, part 1 Session 9 - Family and home, part 2 Session 10 - Family and home, part 3 Session 11 - Family and home, part 4 Session 12 - Game review Session 13 - Presentations Session 14 - Introduction to school Session 15 - School, part 2 Session 16 - School, part 3 Session 17 - School, part 4 Session 18 - Review and presentations Session 19 - Cultural Connections Session 20 - Sports and hobbies 1 Session 21 - Sports and hobbies 2 Session 22 - Sports and hobbies 3 Session 23 - Game Day Review Session 24 - Final Presentations Some aspects of grammar will be taught as needed to include the present tense forms of the verbs "to be" (ser, estar), "to study," (estudiar), "to go" (ir), and more. Some question words will be practiced and understood.
