In this one-time class we will review important ELA (English Language Arts) topics, including fact or opinion, synonym or antonym, simile or metaphor, 1st or 3rd person narrator, and text features (graph/tally/chart/table, title, caption, and diagram). We will spend 1-2 minutes reviewing each topics before answering questions in the Kahoot! that refer to said topic. Once the students appear to have a grasp of each topic we will answer 4-5 questions on that topic. There are 24 questions total and 6 review slides. This game is easiest played with 2 devices: one for zoom and one for Kahoot! You do not need a login for Kahoot!, you just need to enter the pin that I will give you at the beginning of class. There is a Kahoot! app for phones and tablets or you can open www.Kahoot.it on your web browser. If you are using a laptop you can use a split screen instead of a second device, but this can be difficult for some learners so a second device is preferred. Learners will be able to interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.
Learners will demonstrate understanding of words by relating them to their opposites (antonyms) and to words with similar but not identical meanings (synonyms).
Students will use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
Students will demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings, as well as, interpret figurative language, including similes and metaphors, in context.
Learners will use the relationship between particular words (e.g., synonyms, antonyms) to better understand each of the words.
