수업 소개
-Students will be taught specific techniques that will enable them to create a picture using micrography. Micrography is an art form that incorporates the use of hand written words, phrases, and sentences to form a drawing. -The first few minutes of class will be dedicated to presenting class rules and procedures as well an brief icebreaker so that students can get to know each other. I will ask that they introduce themselves and ask them to share one of the following : their favorite ice cream flavor, favorite food, favorite hobby, favorite color, or favorite animal. -We will discuss the roots of the word Micrography; “micro,” which means small or tiny and the word “graphic” which refers to visual art in general and often refers to words -My instruction will incorporate several teaching modalities, mainly using demonstration and conversation. My teaching style is highly conversational and interactive. I ask questions throughout the lesson and encourage my students to comment and ask questions as well. -Many visuals will be incorporated into the lesson. Examples of Micrography created by various artist will be shown. I will demonstrate techniques and skills needed to complete the project. I’ll show how to create small letters and then how to place them in a planned configuration, that when complete, will create a finished piece of Micrography art. -After an explanation of the techniques involved in creating the project and I’ll review these steps with the students. -We will create a 5 minute practice piece of Micrography before students create their final piece. I will demonstrate each step as the students follow along. Students will show their work to me after each step to ensure that the students understand and complete the step. -Students will then create their individual Micrography drawing choosing from a selection of designs. I will conference with students as they are working. -Students would enjoy this course if they like to draw, like detail, enjoy writing, have solid fine motor skills, and have patience.

Supply list -White paper- can be copy paper or drawing paper either 8 1/2“ x 11” or 9” x 12 -A #2 pencil -An eraser -One very fine/thin black writing tool-either an ultra fine ball point pen, a gel pen, or ultra fine marker. You probably have a fine tip ball point stick pen in one of your pen/pencil containers or desk drawers at home (these are those sample giveaway pens you once got at a meeting, a hotel, or a bank with a company logo on it). The thinner the better. If not you can order one on Amazon, Blick Art, Michaels, or an office supply vendor. I’ve listed a variety of brands of pens and thin markers below. -Here some brands that make fine point pens: Pilot Ultra Fine Point Rolling Ball, Uniball Ultra Micro Point, many BIC round stick pens have thin points, Paper Mate Write Bros Ballpoint are also made with thin points, many generic store brands make thin stick ball point and gel pens. -Here are some ultra fine point art markers. You can also order many of these from Amazon, Blick Art, Michaels, or an office supply vendor. These tend to be more pricey than ball point pens so choose these only if you know that you and/or or your child will find multiple uses for these markers (you may own one of these if you do scrapbooking or crafting) : Prismacolor Premier Illustration Marker - 005 Extra Fine Line, Staedtler Triplus Fineliner, Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen Fine or Extra Fine, Sakura Pigma Micron Pen .005 .0.20 tip, Copic Multiliner (any of these sizes will work 0.1, .03, .05, .5)-these are the Rolls Royce of markers used by artists, illustrators, and graphic designers Optional -a ruler

Join me on an exciting journey as we learn new skills and ideas. Bring your curiosity and willingness to work and let’s see what we can accomplish.
I have over 30 years experience teaching art, working as a freelance artist and published illustrator, as well as 9 years experience working as a reading tutor and have worked with students from age 2 through 102.
I am a certified art teacher (042 certificate) in Connecticut for grades K-12. I have a B.S. in Art Education as well Masters level courses in studio art, education, computer technology, computer graphics. I also have experience working with reading programs including Fundations, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum, Reading Plus, and Lexia.
My instructional, focus will be on teaching art classes, interdisciplinary classes connecting art with various other subject areas, and some reading tutoring.
I love collecting quotations. I’ll share two of my favorites that express my philosophy about teaching. Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” I like to encourage creativity in all my students. I believe that art is a language of expression and we each have unique and different voice. As a teacher I encourage students to find express their creative voice.
Another of my favorites is from R. Chanina, “I have learned much from my teachers, more from my colleagues, and the most from my students.” Each new student that I meet and teach offers me new ideas, a different point of view, and their own unique wisdom.
I enjoy drawing (with traditional materials as well as creating digital artwork), hiking in the woods, creative writing, the seashore, spending time with family and friends, like to read and I cheer for the Yankees. Pizza, chocolate, and fruit are some of my favorite foods, and blue is my favorite color.
