⭐This a one-time self-paced class. There will be no live meetings.

In this class, students will learn how to use oil pastels to create The Starry Night, a work of art inspired by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh! Designed with beginners in mind, this pre-recorded video class is suitable for ages 7-10. 

The teaching process used for this class is a step-by-step method that will inspire students into creative action! This process involves observing, following instructions, and creating until each student is happy with the outcome. 

Students will learn basic oil pastel techniques and apply these techniques to complete this project. This class is designed to give beginner artists the skills they need to jump-start their artistic journey into self-expression, reflection, and creative thinking. 

Included with this class is a short Vincent Van Gogh biography video. This informational video includes images and facts about Van Gogh, and is suitable for all ages.

Supplies and materials needed for this class: 

+black paper (construction paper works great!)
+set of oil pastels
+paper towel

Steps to complete this project: 

Step 1: Draw The Starry Night with White Oil Pastel
Step 2: Apply Blocks of White Oil Pastel to the Design
Step 3: Add Details to the Sky
Step 4: Add Color to the Design
Step 5: Outline the Design with Black Oil Pastel

Total time needed for students to complete this project is approximately 40 minutes.

This is a self-paced video class where students may proceed through the art lesson at their own pace. Video may be paused at any time. There will be no live meetings, however, I will be available for questions and gentle encouragement. 

It is important to me that your learner's experience is a positive one. My teaching style is relaxed, supportive, joyful, and fun. I encourage students to add their own details to their masterpiece to make it their own. I'm open to any comments, questions, or feedback that you may have.

Draw The Starry Night with Oil Pastels
 In The Starry Night drawing class, we will discuss the art supplies needed for this project. We will watch a Van Gogh biography video. With oil pastels, we will combine shapes and lines to create The Starry Night design on our sheet of paper. We will review composition and placement of shapes and lines. Once our Starry Night drawing is complete, we will block in color, draw patterns, and outline our design. As we are working on our artwork, we will discuss application techniques of oil pastels.
