Welcome to Drawing Fundamentals Course Level 2!

In this 10-week drawing course, students will build upon foundational drawing skills from Level 1 and focus on more advanced techniques such as perspective, elements of composition, patterns, understanding light and shadow, portraiture, optical illusional art, abstraction, and many more! We will go step by step together to help students refine their drawing skills and build confidence in their ability to create accurate and expressive drawings.  

Students will follow along with the drawing steps but are encouraged to add their own ideas! Every class will focus on drawing with pencil but towards the end of the class, students are free to color using their favorite coloring material (crayons, markers, oil pastels, etc.) 

The pace of our class will be based on the student’s abilities, so we will go slower or faster depending on how we are doing together. 

Their is no experience needed for this class!

Students will build upon the concepts they have previously learned, like the Elements and Principles of Design, which are the building blocks of all artful composition.

Students will advanced their learning of the four fundamental drawing skills – shape/edge, measurement, light (value), and space (perspective).

Line: Observational Hand Contour Drawing

 In this lesson, students will practice contour drawing. This drawing technique is used to depict the 3D form by showing the shape and volume of an object. Students will draw their hand and use the contour technique to show the form of their hand.

 In this lesson, students will explore the art of zentangle, a meditative technique that involves creating intricate designs through repetitive patterns. They will craft elaborate patterns within the shape of the first letter of their name using the zentangle approach.

Emphasis: Close-up Dragon Eye

 In this lesson, students will delve into a design technique known as emphasis, where they will discover how to make specific elements of their artwork stand out and capture attention. They will create a drawing of a close-up dragon eye, incorporating texture and shading details.

One Point Perspective: Draw A Room

 In this lesson, students will explore the technique of one-point perspective drawing. This method illustrates how objects seem to diminish in size as they recede into the distance. They will produce a drawing of a room utilizing this one-point perspective approach.
