Do you have a child that loves Dog Man books? Whether your child has already read, is reading, or wants to read the newest Dog Man book, Twenty Thousand Fleas Under The Sea (2023), this will be the perfect book club to join!  I have been teaching for over 15 years and have served 6 years as an elementary school librarian!  I love Dog Man stories and creating lessons around this widely popular character!  

Please note:  Your learner should read Chapter 1 and 2 prior to coming to our first class.

THE BOOK CLUB:
We'll kick off our book club by meeting our Dog Man fans. Learners are invited to bring a Dog Man object (favorite book, toy, plush, etc.) to share. Then we will jump right in with activities to check for understanding of Chapters 1 and 2. 

Next, our class will have fun as we read together. As an experienced teacher and librarian, I'll be reading aloud Chapter 3 to the kids to draw them into the story. Modeling fluency and expression is important and I then like to encourage readers to give it a try. Learners will be encouraged, not required, to read aloud during our class so we can enjoy each other's expression. They will love the fun voices and engaging way I read! It's a great way to focus on voice and expression when reading! 


As we interact in each meeting, learners will engage in reading activities focused on making connections, predictions, and extensions based on the plot. Students will learn proven reading comprehension strategies in this club as we read together enjoying all of Dog Man's adventures. Learners will interact with each other to discuss and ask questions as we read, focusing on reading comprehension.  We'll have time to play some games such as guess the character, Pictionary, and other fun "hands-on" games to make reading fun! 

After our first meeting, students should read (or they can be read to by someone else) the remaining chapters before our next meeting. The schedule will be as follows:

Before class: Read Chapter 1 and 2

Class 1: 
Read together Chapter 3 -5
- examine character traits
- making connections
- comprehension skills
    HW: Read Chapters 6 -16

Class 2
Discuss Chapters 6 - 16
- making inferences
- summary strategy
- comprehension skills

Book clubs are a great way to engage your child in a positive reading experience that boosts their confidence in reading! Developing an early love of reading helps develop life-long readers!  Sharing a book with others will allow your Dog Man fan to partake in common experiences, share connections, and create a bond over a beloved character! 

So I hope your child will come join in this 2 week class as we read, discuss, and interact with Dog Man fans to create a fun, energetic, and engaging reading experience for your child!
