His name has become synonymous for fun, laughter, and joy. Come and join us as we explore the life and legacy of the one and only Walt Disney. We will explore his childhood and early influences, his first (failed) cartoon company, the trip to California and partnering with his brother, the beginning of the Disney empire, and the impact the movies made on the world. We will examine the different early types of animation and even try some of our own! This class will use the "Who Was Walt Disney" book by Whitney Stewart as a guide, but will cover so much more! Each week, learners will be given different options for homework - from creating their own animation and cartoon, watching Disney movies and writing a review, to arts and crafts. Students will be given the opportunity to choose which homework assignment they would like to complete. 

In this 6 week class, we will learn: 

Class 1 - History of animation and film
Class 2 - Walt's childhood and influences
Class 3 - Working at the Post Office, WWI
Class 4 - Meeting Ub Iwerk, Laugh-O-Grams
Class 5 - Starting over in California, Oswald the Lucky Rabbitt
Class 6 - 1920's - The change in movies, the creation of Mickey Mouse
Class 7 -  1930's and 40's- Movies -Snow White, Bambi, Fantasia, Pinocchio
Class 8 - Changes during WWII and the  introduction of television
Class 9 - Disney Parks
Class 10 - Changes in movies, What is Disney's legacy?
