Project based learning is the best way for learners to master knowledge in a meaningful way! In this class the teacher will help guide students through the game design process to create a board game based on learners own interests. This class is ideal for friends or siblings who would like a to work on a project together (each learner should be individually enrolled) or for individuals who are very interested in all aspects of game design. This course is not a lecture course and will be...
Students will design a game using the engineering design process. Students will write and edit rules for their game using the writing process. Students will have fun creating something of their own.
Mrs. Fimbel has been teaching in public schools for 10 years and is experienced in directing student discussions and brainstorming Mrs. Fimbel has lead this board game design class in public school enrichment settings for several years and recently presented this topic to other teachers at the Texas Computer Eductors Association in 2020.
Handouts will be provided. Students should either print them or be able to access and edit them. Students will need supplies such as cardboard, paper, index cards, or access to a printer to create the physical game they design. Exact supplies will vary by learner to fit their own designs.

Students will be allowed to brainstorm their own topics for game creation. The teacher is experienced at focusing ideas in a positive appropriate way. However, inevitably students may suggest topics during brainstorming that may not always be appropriate. Please discuss with your learner appropriate topics and what to do if someone suggests something they find offensive before the first class.
