Class Experience

Students will log on daily to get their decluttering tip or task. This is a flexible class with no set meeting time, so the students may log on at a time that suits them. The teacher will be available for questions/concerns/suggestions by email. This is a great opportunity to do a class as an entire family! Every day a daily task will be assigned for the students to do in their room that should not take more than 15 minutes. (except under the bed day!)

On Fridays, they will have a journal entry question. These weekly questions/thought prompts will allow the learners to really think about what they are trying to accomplish and what they are learning in the class. They will journal these thoughts and can share with the group if they want. The journal entries can be made public or can be kept private--they are not graded in this class, this is to reflect on topics such as 'getting rid of old toys' that may be hard for some to do.

Weekly pictures are encouraged so we can help each other stay on track and celebrate our successes. Students are encouraged to chat with one another about the process or other topics that might come up as well as congratulate others on getting all tasks done each week.

Broad Schedule:
Week 1- The things people don't see: drawers, closets
Week 2- Those hiding places: under furniture
Week 3- What about those shelves?
Week 4- Putting it all together

Learning Goals

The goal is to learn decluttering step-by-step and end with a tidy space at the end of the month. The students will learn organizational life-skills that will benefit them though life at both home and work.

over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Day 1
Lesson 2:
Day 2
Day 2. Other clothing drawers- dump out any drawers that have shirts, shorts, pants, etc and do the same thing. If it is totally worn out or does not fit do not put it back in the drawer. (I keep one set of shorts and one t-shirt for painting, so you may want to keep a set of clothes to wear where you know you are going to be doing something messy!) Finished!
Lesson 3:
Days 3 & 4
Day 3 and 4. You should have all of your clothes drawers done. Just remember to put things IN these drawers when you have clean laundry. Your bed/chair/desk is not where clothes go. 😊

Now, other drawers- do you have a desk with drawers? Other drawers in your dresser? Put on some upbeat music and dump out those drawers. Put markers together (maybe in a large ziplock bag or small storage tray), pencils together, stickers together…whatever you have in these drawers, make sure to look for b
Lesson 4:
Day 5
Day 5. Monster under the bed. No, there is not a live monster under the bed, but I bet there is stuff living under there. When my son left for the Army, I found 40 dirty socks under his bed. SMELLY!! GROSS!!

Pull it all out! Use a broom if you need to. Capture those dust bunnies and throw them in the trash. Same steps…throw away broken stuff, donate items you are too grown up for or that do not fit you, put any special items in your keepsake box. If you have under-the-bed storage tubs,
