Looking for dance lessons that aren't your typical ballet, tap, or jazz class? Then try international folk dancing! Join us in a multicultural experience as we learn dances from around the world. This class is the self-paced version of my ongoing class by the same name, and it is a great option for learners who are unable to meet in one of my live sections. Each week in this self-paced class, we will explore a cultural dance style from a specific country by learning a traditional dance or beginner-level choreography from that country. Each lesson consists of one video tutorial ranging from 10-20 minutes long depending on the length/difficulty of the dance. An accompanying classroom post includes a brief background of the dance, links to video examples of professional/local dancers dancing the specific style, and a link to the music used in the lesson (if available). While the lessons are sequenced to gradually increase in difficulty across the 6 weeks, the dance content does not build from one class to the next so learners are free to complete the lessons in whatever order they wish. This class is suitable for both beginners and seasoned dancers alike--there is something for everyone! I strive to create a welcoming environment for learners to celebrate other cultures and receive exposure to unique dance styles. A note on volume 1: This class is part of my series of self-paced "Dance Around the World" classes. Each of the classes in this series has the same 6-week structure using a different array of dances, and the classes can be completed in any order. For example, this class is labeled as volume 1, but learners don't have to complete this class before signing up for volumes 2 or 3 (the volume numbers associated with each class title are simply to differentiate the unique content of each class). Volume 1 includes the following dances: Damat Halayi (Turkish dance), Korobushka (Russian dance), Repasseado De Rio D'Onor (Portuguese dance), Cuenca (Ecuadorian dance), Ganggangsullae (Korean dance), and The Sweets of May (Irish dance).

In order to keep learners safe while dancing, parents should ensure that learners have access to an open space that is free of obstacles or other hazards. Learners should wear comfortable, supportive clothing and shoes to avoid injury. A water bottle is also highly encouraged for proper hydration. While the dance steps in this class are not overly strenuous, parents should be aware of the risk of injury to learners that can occur if not properly supervised. Specific movements used in this class include but are not limited to balancing on one foot, running in place, and skipping in a circle. If a learner cannot utilize their full range of motion or otherwise requires adaptation to movements, parents should contact the instructor ahead of time to see if this class will be a good fit.
Links to YouTube videos are included in each classroom post and do not require the learner to have a personal account. Watching the YouTube videos is highly recommended but not required.

교사 전문성 및 자격증
I have always been passionate about dance, and I have a rich variety of dance experience. Growing up, I took Irish dance lessons for 10 years. I attended Brigham Young University where I received a minor in cultural dance and spent 4 years performing and touring with the Brigham Young University International Folk Dance Ensemble. During that time, I received dance training from master dancers and choreographers from around the world including India, Mexico, Serbia, China, Canada, and Hungary, just to name a few. I also taught beginner-level cultural dance classes at the university and a introduction to Irish dance class for kids ages 5-7.
