Due to the vastness of options in Dungeons and Dragons, students will learn and exercise many skills, including the following: -communication -strategy and tactics -storytelling -critical thinking -teamwork -problem solving -conflict resolution -resolutions of ethical and moral dilemmas -math and reading fluency
I have spent much time playing in and running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. I also have much experience teaching D&D to new players. As far as teaching children goes, I've spent over a decade teaching ages 8-18 in the classroom and have served in many roles from Master Teacher to Curriculum Developer to Network Trainer to Academy Headmaster (all with Great Hearts Academies).
Students will need a free dndbeyond.com account and completed character which I will check before the first session (students who completed 103 with me have one but may create another using dndbeyond.com). Please do not hesitate to message me with questions about character concepts or rules. Though there is combat in this game, it is described in words, not using visual images. I will also ask and require students to be conscious of their descriptions, avoiding anything grotesque or inhumane. Also,"Curse of Strahd" features strong gothic horror themes, meaning vampires, werewolves, witches, and more.
To prepare and run this course, I will use my experience and knowledge of (as well as references to) "The Player's Handbook", "The Dungeon Master's Guide", "The Monster Manual", and the module "Curse of Strahd".
