In this ongoing (subscription-based) class, we switch between Combination (between 2 creatures) and Quick Draw (multiple creatures). I will be showing pictures and videos of the creatures or beings we discuss, but will not be teaching students how to draw (I can help if they need it), but I want their drawings to be what they want to create.

In Combination weeks, we will discuss two or more mythical creatures and beings (like gods, goddesses, kami, etc.) that are opposites and create artwork from combining them together - for example, a phoenix and a nokk, taking a creature that bursts into flames at the end of its life and a creature that lives in the water and lures people in, and you may come up with a bird that can create fire underwater.

In Quick Draw classes, we will only talk about creatures for a few minutes, then you can sketch a design and present it - we will repeat this as many times as we can with different creatures. Each week before class, I will post the two creatures & beings so that students have time to research them if they would like.

It is also up to you to choose how you want to create; I usually draw physically or digitally, but you can use whatever you are comfortable with, including crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, or even just sketching!

Combination class:
1. ~20 minutes - a lesson about the creatures & beings of the day
2. 5 minutes - brainstorming attributes that are similar and different between the two
3. ~20 minutes - creating your own interpretation of a combined creature or being
4. 10 minutes - optional presentations.

Quick Draw Class:
1. ~5 minutes - quick lesson on two creatures or beings
2. ~5-10 minutes - drawing your combination
3. ~3 minutes - optional presentations
4. Repeat as many times as we can

------Weekly Plans (may change depending on classes and teacher discretion)------

November 11-14: Random & Requested
November 18-21: Fictional Disney
November 25-28: Native American - Wampanoag & Pequot

Students may want a basic knowledge of mythology and mythological creatures & beings, but it is not required, as I will be going over the information in class. The information that students know about before class will allow them to have a deeper understanding of the material and be able to share what they know during the class. I am always interested to hear what students think and how they feel about what they have learned, but it also makes the class more interesting and exciting for everyone!

My teaching style involves information being presented to students, where they can ask questions and discuss what they have learned but I also include and utilize interactive activities to gauge learning as we go. I will present information through a PowerPoint during class, including videos, photos, and information about or featuring the creatures & beings, their animal counterparts (if they exist), their mythological background, what they may be similar to, and how they are seen within society. Students are encouraged to participate in discussions about what we talk about and how they are seen in society but they are welcome to participate as much or as little as they want.

A recording of the class will be posted after each session, so learners can go back and rewatch classes or watch a class they missed. I also utilize captions in my class as much as possible, so that students can read what is being said if they have a hard time hearing, miss something, or their computer sound is messing up. If there is anything I can do in terms of adjustment or accessibility to improve your students' experience in class (ex. no flashing lights, etc.), please do not hesitate to let me know!
학습 목표
Students will learn about different mythical creatures & beings, their mythology, and their real-life counterparts are (if they have any). They will learn about the similarities and differences of the mythological creatures & beings that we are talking about that day. They will also be able to work on their art skills in a judgment-free zone.

학부모 가이드
Mythical creatures & beings can have more intense backgrounds and mythology, so aspects such as destruction, violence, drowning, kidnapping, and murder may arise as to explain these myths and their methods but I will not dwell on them in the class and will try to keep students from focusing on those aspects. If your student is more sensitive to these topics or gets scared easily, you may want to stay in the same room with them or check on them throughout the class. We may also watch short scenes of each creature from media (such as movies, video games, and tv shows) that may have a PG or PG-13 rating, but I will not show any explicit scenes (no sexuality, gory violence, or profanity) - they will only be used to show the creatures & beings and their methods to enhance a student's art.
수업 자료
Students will need art supplies of their choice, so I will list some options below of things they may need. I will be using paint and digital methods, but your learner is open to choose what they work best with.

I am a historian, scientist, and member of the LGBTQIA+/queer community (asexual, panromantic; she/her/hers). I teach mythology, science, and pop culture classes here on Outschool.

I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Forensic Science and a focus on mythology and research. But I have been a teacher for over 8 years, working with students from toddlerhood to teenage and beyond. I have always encouraged students to learn based on their own learning styles, so my classes incorporate different varieties of learning, including interactive elements.

In terms of art, I have been creating things since I can remember - I love painting and have worked on many things, from silhouette paintings, tie-dye-styled quotes, and scenes from my favorite fandoms.
