NOTE!  CLASS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 3 STUDENTS OR IT WILL BE CANCELED.  Students will learn what compound words are and then be able to draw a literal version of a compound word of choice.  For the Reading Workshop, students will listen to an exciting story about "Lexie, the Word Wrangler," written by Rebecca Van Slyke.  We will practice combining each separate words to make compound words.  The last 5 minutes of class, students will draw a literal version of a compound word.  They will choose from a small list of compound words or may use one of their own.  Students love drawing the silly literal versions of compound words.  For the Writing Workshop, they will conclude  the class with writing a sentence using the compound word to tell about their picture.
