Welcome to the world of social media! It is a powerful tool, when used correctly, and it's something that students should know how to safely navigate. This class is designed to be welcoming and non-intimidating so that all students feel comfortable asking questions! This is a shorten version of a four week in depth class. It is designed for students with busy schedules and highlights the most important aspects of staying safe. Since this is a shortened class, I will assign homework for students. They will create paper versions of safe online posts. Parents will need to discuss these with students after they've been completed. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect: Students will learn the rules of social media, the steps they need to take to ensure their safety as well as prevent personal information from being used without their permission. They will use these rules to look at social media posts as well as direct messages and comments to decide if they are safe. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.
My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
